* J. Thomas Carruthers, Jr., owner and CEO of Prudential Carruthers REALTORS®, began his real estate career while attending the University of Maryland. After graduation, with a degree in Business Administration, he became a full-time residential sales professional with Colquitt Realty. * Within a year he became one of the youngest sales managers in the country. * In 1973 became sole owner of Colquitt-Carruthers, Inc. REALTORS®, quickly becoming the largest in the area. * In 1980, at age 37, he sold the company to Merrill Lynch and retired under a non- competition agreement. * Tom re-entered real estate in May 1991 with his son, J. Thomas Carruthers, III, upon his son’s graduation from the University of Richmond with a degree in Finance. * Together, as part of a strategic growth plan, they have acquired a number of local firms from the Virginia, Maryland and DC areas.
