FAQ > Online Rent Payments
What happens if the rent is not withdrawn in time or when the tenant does not have enough money in their bank account?
SimplifyEm understands that unforeseen circumstances can sometimes lead to late rent payments. Here’s what happens if a tenant’s online rent payment isn’t withdrawn successfully:
When a rent payment is not received on time, you’ll be notified by SimplifyEm. Additionally, the tenant will automatically receive a late payment reminder, prompting them to settle the outstanding amount. The SimplifyEm software will update your rent tracking worksheet and reports to reflect the “rent overdue” status. The system will also continue to schedule online rent collection attempts for the next rent due date.
If the online payment fails due to insufficient funds (NSF) in the tenant’s bank account, you’ll need to take further action. SimplifyEm won’t be able to collect the rent automatically. There are two options for collecting the outstanding rent:
- Manual Collection: You can arrange with your tenant to manually collect the rent payment outside of the online system.
- One-Time Payment Option:The tenant can access their tenant portal and utilize the one-time payment option available. This allows them to retry the payment, ensuring sufficient funds are available this time. If they are paying using the one time payment option, it will be automatically recorded in the worksheet.
It’s important to note that there’s a $25 service fee associated with NSF payments. You have the option to reimburse yourself for this fee by collecting it from the tenant, similar to a traditional bounced check fee.
By understanding these procedures, you can address missed online rent payments efficiently and ensure timely collection of rent.
